In this current environment, it's so very easy to let the days events drag you into a depressing stupor. Honestly, how can anyone with a modicum of empathy NOT be moved towards a darkened cloud in their minds, shutting themselves off and away from family, friends and a better chance at happiness. It's something I have a constant battle with, as I'm certain there are many others desperately looking for the lighted paths out of those depths.
For me, one of those paths is working with wood, taking old and discarded furniture, or old barnwood and even heavy wooden pallets, and creating something new that has a new usage or meaning. Much like me, it's still an old chunk of wood, but now reworked to begin a new life.
Being able to turn my creative soul loose upon the world (and a loving wife who understands why she no longer has a garage to park in!) gives me that lighted path out of the darkness, and I'm so very thankful for that! If you find yourself spiraling towards a darkness, try reinventing or "repurposing" yourself to find that ray of light that belongs to you!
It reminds me of a line in a Dan Fogelburg song;
"Broke through the ice, got cut down to size, and escaped through the night!"
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
